Hey everybody! I’d like to introduce you to Remy.
Remy is a 1962 Chevrolet Corvair 700 station wagon powered by a rear engine air cooled flat 6 with two one barrel Rochester carburetors and a four speed manual transmission. Unfortunately, this is not the Lakewood addition of the wagon as it would be much rarer. In the two year lifespan of the Corvair wagon just over 33,000 units were built so even know it’s not a Lakewood it’s definitely not a common car on the road today. Overall, the condition of this car is better than average for the age. There is some body filler evident around the tail lights particularly on the passenger side were there is a crack but other than that the car shows well. The engine was reportedly rebuilt two years ago although we have no paperwork to support this. The car starts and drives well and the carburetors have been properly set up so the car will go up on high idle when cold and kick down to regular idle as it should. Like most Corvairs and similar Volkswagens with air cooled engines adequate heat in the interior has always been a problem. This is the case with Remy as well. Other than that, very little would be needed to make this car roadworthy again. The car runs and drives quite well as it is with one minor exception. The 4 speed shifter is difficult to get out of 2nd and 4th. Shaking the shifter slightly allows you to get out of these gears with ease. Based on what we’ve been told this problem is related to the shifter linkage and we do have I replacement piece of linkage for it that will be sold with the car. The aftermarket wheels currently on the car are the only ones that we have for but if you wanted to switch back to original equipment size tires and rims they are readily available from many aftermarket suppliers as are most other parts for this car. Remy gets plenty of curious looks on our lot and when out driving around as most people simply can’t figure out what kind of car it is. In my opinion that’s what makes Remy so special. I’m sure he would bring lots of smiles wherever he goes and to his future owners as well.
